KFDI Wraps Up A Big Christmas for Overseas Troops and Area Children

Wichita, Kan. —  Country radio station Today’s KFDI 101.3 has wrapped up a big Christmas for  troops overseas and children here at home.

KFDI’s Brian & Kellie morning team (Brian Pierce and Kellie Michaels) collected a staggering 22,000 pounds of Christmas gifts and decorations to send to troops overseas during their “Christmas In A Box” project.  The 2009 total is an increase of 3,000 pounds over 2008.

Items were donated during a Troop Support Motorcycle Ride with more than 750 American Legion Riders on October 17, and by KFDI listeners at area businesses throughout October and November.

In addition to the 11 tons of items, $19,000 in cash was donated to cover postage.

More than 1,000 Christmas In A Box packages were carefully packed and sent to troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, Japan and Germany. KFDI is now receiving emails from around the globe thanking its listeners for remembering the troops during the holidays.

As the last of the Christmas in A Box packages were shipped, KFDI listeners continued their unprecedented giving by adopting nearly 800 children through the KFDI Christmas Crusade For Children with the Wichita Police Department.

Listeners called during a two-day on-air Christmas Crusade “Adopt-A-Thon”. Listeners brought Christmas toys and gifts for each adopted child to the KFDI studios, where they now line the hallways, ready to be wrapped.  The toys will be delivered by Wichita Police Officers in time for the holiday.

KFDI-FM 101.3 is one of six radio stations in the Wichita market owned by Journal Broadcast Group.
