KMTV Hires News Director

Omaha, Neb. — Al Carl has been hired as News Director at KMTV.

A television news veteran with more than 20 years experience in newsrooms across the country, Carl comes to KMTV from FOX and NBC affiliates in Kansas City, Mo., where he served as Executive Producer for news for the past five years. Before that he ran newsrooms in Alabama and Georgia, and was a newsroom manager at television stations in New York, Michigan and Iowa.

“Al’s breadth of experience and knowledge of best practices from throughout the country will be great assets to his team members here at the station and all of our KMTV viewers,” said Vice President and General Manager, Journal Broadcast Group – Omaha Operations Rob Burton.

Carl began his television career as an anchor/reporter at a small station in the Nebraska Panhandle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln after growing up near Omaha in Gretna, Neb.

“I look forward to working with the excellent news, sales and management teams at Action 3 News in Omaha. KMTV and its owner, Journal Broadcast Group, are committed to providing superior news, weather and sports information to the viewers and radio listeners in the Omaha market,” Carl said. “I am thrilled to be coming back to my home state to be a part of the Action 3 News team!"

Carl’s first day at the station will be March 1.

KMTV-TV is part of Journal Broadcast Group’s cluster of stations in the Omaha market that also includes five radio stations: Z-92 (KEZO-FM), Star 104.5 (KSRZ-FM), Channel 94.1 (KQCH-FM), CD105.9 (KKCD-FM) and Big Sports 590 (KXSP-AM).
